Disaster Assistance
The genesis of Valley Churches United is in disaster assistance, and we still see this as a critical function of our organization. When floods, mud slides, earthquakes or fires occur, we generally respond with:
- Emergency Food
- Sandbags
- Food Certificates
- Pet Food
- Household and personal Items
We've Had Our Share of Disasters
Whenever a big storm is forecast, we provide sand and sandbags--just in case.
Besides the 1982 floods, Valley Churches United provided aid in the aftermath of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake which caused devastating property loss throughout our area. Valley Churches opened a disaster center that channeled over $500,000 in items and cash donations to local earthquake victims.
In 1998, El Nino storms struck once again, and once again Valley Churches became a disaster center for storm victims. Despite our own facility being flooded (with a loss of over $60,000 in food and supplies), Valley Churches carried on, providing direct aid to residents affected by flood and mudslides.
Fast forward to August of 2020 when we experienced the historic devastation of the CZU fire in which over 900 homes
were lost. Through the generosity of our donors Valley Churches has supported over $600,000 of CZU fire recovery for qualified clients with unmet needs.
The winter season of 2023 brought unrelenting storms that brought immense devastation tor our mountain community once again. The resilience of our community coming together to help during this most recent crisis has been inspiring and healing.
